UNFPA Turkey Country Office has been providing support to Syrian Refugees through over 20 Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) all around Turkey. In the context of WGSS women and girls receive information and services on reproductive health, women’s rights, gender based violence and gender equality, psychosocial support, acquire contextually relevant skills and rebuild their social networks in a non-stigmatizing environment. 11 of those centers are being funded by ECHO – European Union Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection in five cities in Turkey. In Ankara there are three WGSS funded by ECHO and managed in collaboration with Hacettepe University Women's Research and Implementation Center (HUWRIC), Ministry of Health Ankara Public Health Directorate and UNFPA. Christian Danielsson, Director-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission visited one of those centers in Ankara - Ulubey WGSS - on 24 August 2016. After a tour in the center Mr. Danielsson was briefed by MoH representatives on the refugee response of Provincial Public Health Directorate in Ankara. Then he has sessions with the beneficiaries and service providers of WGSS.
